Cerro Viento
Restaurant
For this project we were asked to bring a renovated image to the classical Cerro Viento's architectural language — designing the concept of the space and its lighting.
The space converted into the restaurant was originally a basement lobby with a central double height and four small crystal domes — skylights that bring in natural light. Searching for a special character, two layers of colour-stained glass are integrated into each dome to pursue a kaleidoscope effect, allowing LED strips to remain the hidden part of the design, illuminating the back section of the restaurant and giving a perception of spaciousness.
The artificial lighting that substitutes the natural light from the central double height is a wood cove integrated with the structure, holding fluorescent lamps and a dimming control system. Furniture carries integrated incandescent sconces for the nearby tables, with LED strips at the back of the shelves.
The restroom areas are intervened with wood edging that supports custom-made pendant LED lamps, and wood frameworks frame the sink mirrors — giving a warmer ambiance to the tile walls and the apparent-concrete ceiling.
Two layers of stained glass turn each skylight into a kaleidoscope — so the light is seen, and the fixtures are not.
